Black Maternal and Infant Health: Shifting the Narrative and Transforming Systems
Black mothers and babies in St. Louis are dying at alarming rates because Black families face high levels of discrimination and toxic stress. FLOURISH St. Louis is working to achieve zero racial disparities in infant mortality by 2033, in part, through the work of its Community Leadership Cabinet (CLC). The CLC helps to provide strategic direction for FLOURISH, identify racial equity barriers and solutions identified through direct experience, and engage the broader community in addressing the challenges that families face. This intimate conversation spotlighted three CLC members, Mia Turner, Sharron Orather, and Alecia Deal, that are disrupting the ‘status quo’ by shifting the narrative and spearheading transformational systems co-design. They were joined by Lora Gulley from Generate Health to discuss continuing to move this work forward.
